Background:
The Kimber M82 G was a government contract awarded to Kimber of Oregon in the late 1980s as a M-12 target rifle. There were two contracts, both for 10,000 rifles. 20,000 rifles were manufactured between 1987 and 1989 to fill the initial U.S. government contract. Kimber checked every one for groups. Approximately 1,000 were marked with the *star above the serial number, which indicates the best ones made and sold them on the commercial market. U.S. property marked guns do exist in private hands - all within a low serial number range.

82 Gs were made in large numbers for the military as a training rifle but somehow an extremely large number ended up in a government warehouse for decades, unused, and in original packing. Every one of these rifles was thoroughly examined, inside and out, by a U.S. Army Ordnance armorer before they had been released to the certified CMP armorers who reexamined the rifles before they could be signed off and released for sale. Someone at CMP sent a crew of civilian employees to the depot in Anniston, AL to perform a recount on their inventory and verify each and every serial number. They cut open the packaging with long blade box cutters with no regard for what were in the boxes. They defaced many of the stocks leaving a nasty razor cut on the stock on most of them. The government then sold the rifles to the CMP who then sold them to NRA members involved in competition shooting. This went on for years until the supply was exhausted.

So what is different about this particular rifle?
The subject rifle was first inspected at the CMP Armory in Anniston, AL. It was purchased from CMP on August 7, 2013 and it shipped out of the CMP South store in Anniston, AL. The rifle appears to be "Unissued" and unfired other than at the Kimber factory. The stock is in excellent condition with minimal dings, scratches, and fortunately no customary “CMP box knife” scratches on the sides. This rifle has been a safe queen for the past 12 years.

Condition: Excellent. Will gladly provide a serious buyer close up pictures of the action, barrel, and stock. https://imgur.com/a/65YCmSW
